Running your own business is a lot of work – with a lot of moving parts. Business planning, financial strategies, employee management, customer acquisition, and marketing are a few of the issues small business owners face. You may need a physical reconfiguration of your business space. There are times when business owners and managers must make so many decisions at once that it can seem almost paralyzing. Sometimes there are so many things to do in the normal course of a business, it’s hard to imagine how to grow.

Enter the business advisor. An advisor is a strategist, an analyst, a listener, a resource. DeLand Consulting offers fresh eyes on your business, and years of experience with a variety of non-profit and for-profit enterprises. I work with both start-ups and established businesses. Unlike targeted business advisors who specialize in finance, marketing, or development, etc., I have a wide range of experience in every aspect of running and growing a business. I lend expertise and research areas of business needs. I help businesses understand their financial reports to make strategic decisions. I guide them to identify their target customers and use their marketing spend more efficiently, and ways to improve employee hiring and retention. I have extensive experience evaluating and designing retail stores for cultural institutions. Product development based on a cultural institution’s collections is a specialty.

Small businesses are different from large corporations. Small businesses are the driver of the US economy and have unique opportunities and challenges. Some common issues are recruiting and retaining employees, securing funding, managing product marketing, and utilizing technology. I speak your business language and understand your concerns. I can guide a business owner or manager to differentiate between an idea and a viable opportunity for their enterprise. I have a network of industry contacts and resources.

DeLand Consulting is a business consulting firm specializing in nonprofit cultural retail stores and for-profit small businesses. I evaluate, develop, design, enhance and optimize retail spaces. I offer guidance to businesses through growth in all aspects – opportunity, feasibility, risk assessment, financial analysis and projection, leadership and management, marketing, and operations. DeLand Consulting offers quality and cost-effective consultation services with an extensive knowledge of the industry and market trends to promote your business’s success. Fully utilizing a business’ competitive advantage is my expertise. I can create detailed scenarios and financial forecasting ensures projections that are actionable and successful. Depending on a client’s needs, I partner with associates who provide expertise in store construction, fixture fabrication, graphics and packaging design, web site design and e-commerce. We are collaborators, solving business problems hand-in-hand with our clients.

ABOUT

I am a builder. I have been on the building team and executive management of the Autry Museum of the American West, The Aquarium of the Pacific, and the Getty Center and Getty Villa. I successfully designed and built their cultural stores, created the processes, and hired and managed their teams. I designed and manufactured countless products inspired by the art and objects in their collections. In 2011, I started DeLand Consulting to activate my experience and knowledge and assist nonprofit museums, botanical gardens, performing art centers, libraries, and for-profit small businesses of all kinds.
